In an effort to help humanely manage the escalating population of horses in the wild, Land Rover is pleased to donate two Certified Pre-Owned LR3s to The Humane Society of the United States. The vehicles will provide transportation to areas where horses will be treated with an immunocontraception vaccine. Land Rover is the exclusive automobile distributor of the "Assateague of the West" wild horse project. A form of immunocontraception (PZP) began preventing pregnancies in wild horses at Assateague Island, Maryland, in 1989. The National Park Service has been administering PZP to stabilize the wild horse population there since 1994. The current project primarily takes place in Colorado and Utah. Researchers there will use these vehicles for the next couple of years to gather research and maintain herd sizes at a manageable level. They will preserve the natural order and reduce the number of horses being held in long-term holding pastures. Land Rover is proud to be part of this initiative.
